July 29, 2018 was indeed a sad day for the Allentown Band. The band’s long-time percussionist Glenn Kressley lost his battle with brain cancer at 8:18 that morning.
Glenn has been a valued member of the band since 1992. Playing the Bass Drum with Cymbal attached is fast becoming a lost art. John Philip Sousa considered his long-serving Bass Drummer Gus Helmecke to be one of the most valued members of his band, in a sense, the heartbeat of the band! Sousa had Gus, we had Glenn. Glenn rarely missed a rehearsal or performance. He was solid, reliable and played the Bass Drum with the artistry and musicality of a virtuoso. He will be sorely missed.
