"Sounds of Silents"
*** Available Now ***
In 2018, The Allentown Band began a series of concerts in Allentown's
histori Miller Symphony Hall featuring classic silent films. This recording features
music selected by Director Ron Demkee to accompany two of these classics:
"Phantom of the Opera" 1922 featuring Lon Chaney
Buster Keaton's "The General" 1926.
Music used for "Phantom of the Opera" includes ballet musci from Gounod's "Faust"
which opened the famous Paris Opera House where the story takes place.
Music for "The General" was drawn from the Civil War era, the period in which
the story actually took place, and a few other classical selections that helped
to enhance the chase scenes and other action portrayed on the screen.
On this recording:
American Civil War Fantasy (Jerry Bilik)
Old Home Days Suite (Charles Ives/arr. Jonathan Elkus)
Dance of the Comedians (Dmitri Kabalevsky/arr. Eric Leidzen)
Circus Band (Charles Ives/arr. Jonathan Elkus)
Ballet Music from "Faust" (Charles Gounod/arr. Rollinson)
Bacchanale from "Samson and Dalila" (Camille Saint-Saens/arr. Egner)
and MORE!
